Hi... I'm 25 years old and was diagnosed as a BRCA2 carrier this past June, 2011. My doctors have suggested that I start the screening process now for breast cancer and in 10 years, start the screenings for ovarian cancer.

I got the MRI and mammogram this past October, 2011 and after many back and forths between my doctor and insurance company, I finally received my bills... $1089 for the MRI (orginally $2345!) and $365 for the mammogram (nothing covered). I'm a working student and to see these bills come in is mind-blowing. Do you or anyone know of clinics in California that offer free or discounted MRI's and mammograms for us gene carriers? If not, can you point me in the right direction to where I can find this info?

Having this burden and constant anxiety is enough for me to handle right now. I don't want the high medical bills preventing me from being able to screen myself. It's an awful feeling.

Help?

Good piece. I realized I had a problem when I bought a pink potato peeler 5 years ago; it sure is cute but that's not the goal here. Our local grocery store is not using pink plastic shopping bags this year and I confess I miss them just a bit. Bellingham is outlawing plastic shopping bags in total soon.

Donation made. Best to you.

Great writing totally agree with you. most compneies pay back few cents for every dollar they sell, and even "bad company" get good grade for having pink on their products. I think pink is over kill but I love the color.

Arie, you should still have your levels checked at your next physical. Even my oncologist had his checked and he was way deficient.
